Road Test: Riga Mini

Riga MINI

Automotive industry of the Soviet Baltic masterpieces never shone. Another matter - mopeds.
They were then released for every taste. One of the most unusual - Riga MINI.

Also, it was called Riga-26 and RMZ-2.126. Since 1982, this little one made at the Riga Motor Plant "Sarkana Zvaygzne," which in Latvian means "Red Star".
In Soviet sporting goods stores such Mini mokick cost slightly more than 200 rubles.

Look at him - either before or after anything like Soviet industry does not produced.

Where, how there was this miracle? Probably, our designers have seized the idea of Homebrew. In those years it was fashionable to build a micro bikes on small wheels.
They are there only 10 inches. Despite the ridiculous amount, Riga-26 has all the hallmarks of adult
mokick: lights, trunk, front telescopic fork. The rear wheel sits rigid - suspension came here three years later. And like, it will be even less?
Omit seats, down handlebars - voila!

Engine - 50 cc V-50. His power - 1.8 horsepower, the gearbox is two-step. Consumption of a mixture of push-pull is not much more than 2 liters per 100 kilometers.

Start up a mini mokick. Strange feeling for the first time sat down on it. I looked down - and where
mokick same? Why is it so little? Turning the clutch up, first gear - acceleration, turn down - second gear. A little scared to fly at maximum speed, and
this thing accelerates to 50 km / h. It seemed to me that the Mini more dynamic of its large brothers. Perhaps its small wheels to spin faster than larger, but still it is very maneuverability.

Imagine, at a bodyweight of 50kg this kid picks up twice as much, but for me it still too small.

He was the perfect solution for the city.
First, its wheels are only good on the pavement, and secondly, no problems with pulling upstairs of this baby and storage in the apartment did not have. Owners often took Riga on vacation, because it is easy to fit even the trunk of a car. In 1998, after recognition of the independence of Latvia, Riga Motor Plant "Sarkana Zvaygzne" handed the heirs of its founder.

Well, we now have to travel to the Chinese fakes.
